A week in the life of…Steph

Hello, I’m Steph, one of the Team Secretaries for the Wakefield Recovery College.  I work alongside Kia, supporting the team with all the administration tasks for the college.  I have been with the team for almost seven months now, which has absolutely flown by and, you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun!  I felt like part of the team really quickly when I joined, as everyone was so welcoming and supportive.

My day starts with a quick check on what courses are running that day, quickly followed by sorting through the emails the college has received since the previous day and actioning these.  At the moment, myself and Kia are very busy scheduling in all the courses for our next year at the college, making sure all the details are correct on the college website and within our booking system and then promoting the courses on our social media pages.

We do this, whilst monitoring enrolments coming into the college; arranging ILP appointments with all new students, and booking current students straight on to their chosen courses.

I also work closely with Rachel at the college and our wonderful volunteers, who support us on the courses that we offer.  I’m the one sending out all pre and post induction information to the volunteers as they progress through to becoming an active volunteer with us, and then keeping them up to date on available training and events that may be of interest to them.  We also arrange regular ‘Volunteer huddles’, which is a lovely opportunity for volunteers to get together with other volunteers, sharing ideas and catching up.

I have been really lucky in being involved in the Couch to 5k course that has been running since May. Running being a favourite pastime of mine, I was delighted to be asked to support on this course and with the help of everyone attending on this, I have almost completed my ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ qualification, so I can continue to support this going forward.  I find it really rewarding to see people progress and possibly develop their own love for running.
